Flourish Goodness: Stay true to yourself

Staying true to yourself is not easy in the digital world, especially because many of us spend several hours focused on the outside world rather than paying attention to our authenticity and how we really feel. The growing use of social media has caused us to become attached to external influences that let us decide our worth or value as individuals - causing us to endure more suffering. We forget that it is our inner voice that holds significance and is the only factor that stays constant no matter what happens around us or what shape we take.

In other words, the picture of your friends catching up without you does not upset the true self, just the ego.

Therefore, it is incredibly important to practice staying raw and real in order to cultivate inner positivity and remind yourself of your self-worth. Ways of doing so include:

  • Connect with the inner you - Before diving into your phone or computer, connect with your inner voice to prevent being carried away by the frenzy of social media.

  • Be real - Post things that you love and are inspired by - be as real as possible on social media as it presents you as a more relatable and attractive human being.

  • Develop congruence - practice aligning your post to whatever you feel inside. For example, on hard days, it’s best advised to take a break from social media and develop the inner peace that you need rather than posting pictures of you having the best day ever.

I totally agree with the 'develop congruence' point! It is vital to mirror what you feel and what you post in order for your peace and mental health respectfully. There should never be any pressure to continuously deliver on your social media platforms - there are days where you are simply not up to it. I fully believe in social media detoxes, they work wonders :)
